Dr. Lauren Natbony

Dr. Lauren R. Natbony is a board certified neurologist and headache specialist.

She is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurology in the Division of Headache and Facial Pain at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and the former Director of the Headache Medicine Fellowship.

Education & Certifications

Dr. Natbony received her undergraduate degree from Stanford University and her medical degree from the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine, completing her internship in Internal Medicine and her residency in Neurology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, her Fellowship in Headache Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and advanced training and certification in medical acupuncture at Harvard Medical School. She is board certified in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and in Headache Medicine by the United Council of Neurologic Subspecialties.

Dr. Natbony is an American Headache Society Emerging Leader and an elected member of the electronic media committee.  She was named by Super Doctors® Rising Stars as one of the top doctors in New York in 2018, 2019, and 2020, and received the Castle Connolly Top Doctor award in 2021.  She is an active member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Headache Society, the International Headache Society and the Headache Cooperative of New England.

Dr. Natbony is the editor and contributing author of Integrative Headache Medicine: An Evidence-based Guide for Clinicians (Springer 2021), a comprehensive reference work for clinicians engaged in the multitude of complementary, evidence-based treatment modalities for headache. Dr. Natbony also has authored numerous prominent medical journal articles and written a number of book chapters (including “New Daily Persistent Headache” and “Headache in Pregnancy and Lactation”).

Dr. Natbony specializes in pediatric, adolescent and adult headache medicine.

She is trained in botulinum toxin injections for chronic migraine, nerve blocks and trigger point injections and is a certified medical acupuncturist. Her practice focuses on combining mainstream and complementary treatments to not only reduce and prevent pain but to improve function, quality of life, and overall wellness. Part of Dr. Natbony’s focus is to educate and empower patients, customizing treatment plans to address the physical, emotional and social contributors to pain.

As a strong advocate of headache-patient education, Dr. Natbony has been quoted in multiple magazine articles, both in print and online, including Time, Women’s Health, Self, Health Magazine, Medscape, Health Day News, Muscle & Fitness, Martha Stewart Living, Popsugar, Bustle, Real Simple and Good Housekeeping. She has been featured on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, Fox 5 News, Good Morning America, and The Doctors TV. Dr. Natbony was a guest on the podcast MD for Moms, a guest contributor to the Healthgrades.com web video section on migraine, and starred in a Self.com video responding to the internet’s most-asked migraine questions. In addition, Dr. Natbony recently partnered with Impel NeuroPharma to launch the Reroute Migraine Relief campaign, an educational initiative to bring awareness to the under-recognized brain gut connection.
